The text of the original article should have the following structure: introduction, patients and methods (materials and methods for experimental works), results, discussion, conclusion. Combination of sections are not acceptable! (e.g. “Results and discussion”). Such articles are not considered for publication or review.
Structure of reviews, lectures, discussion articles, clinical cases and reports on methodology may be arbitrary.
Introduction. Here the purpose and necessity of conducting a study is set out, briefly highlighting the state of the issue with references to the most significant publications.
Patients and Methods (for experimental works, Materials and Methods). Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of patients or other objects of research (healthy people, experimental animals, tissue samples etc.) are given. All research methods used in the work, including statistical data processing methods, must be mentioned. When mentioning equipment and new drugs, it is necessary to specify the manufacturer and the country in brackets. Information about the informed consent and correspondence to the international ethic rules and guidelines (“Ethical Guidelines for biomedical research involving human subjects”, Helsinki Declaration, “Rules for Working with Experimental animals”) should be briefly described as well as the permission of the relevant Ethical Committee must be indicated if applicable.
A detailed description of the statistical methods of research is to be provided: the name(s) of the applied statistical software package(s) (country of producer, company); in which form are the central trends, depending on the type of distribution of indicators; what criteria are used when using quantitative and qualitative indicators; what criteria are used to assess the strength of the relationship between indicators; what multidimensional research methods were used; the criterion for rejecting the null statistical hypothesis.
Results. These should be presented in a logical sequence in the form of text, tables and figures. It is not necessary to repeat all the data from the tables and figures in the text, only to mention the most important of them. Data in the tables should not be duplicated in the figures. The measurement values should correspond to the International System of Units (SI), with the exception of indicators traditionally measured in other units. Figures and tables are placed in line with the text of the article at the point of their first mention.
Discussion. Identify new and important aspects of the results of the study and, if possible, compare them with the data of other researchers; do not repeat information already mentioned in the Introduction section or detailed data from the Results section. Reasoned recommendations may be included in the discussion.
In the Conclusion section, the main results of the work should be summarized.
Template of original article editing
The size of article should not exceed: for original article - 10-15 of A4 pages; for brief reports and clinical cases – 6-8 A4 pages, for lectures and reviews – 20-25 A4 pages.
For publication the Journal accepts original articles, realized at the contemporary state-of-the-art methodical and methodological level, with observance of the "Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects" and in accordance with the "Rules of Good Clinical Practice in the Russian Federation", all human subjects mentioned in the work must have provided informed consent to participate in the study. Research projects requiring the use of experimental animals should be carried out in accordance with the principles of humanity set out in the European Community directives (86/609 / EEC) and the Helsinki Declaration, in accordance with the "Rules for Working with Experimental Animals".
All medicines and medical products used in research should have the appropriate registration and certificates.
When publishing the results of a clinical trial (a research study involving human subjects that is conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of a drug), the permission of the relevant Ethical Committee must be indicated.
When mentioning the names of individual authors in the text, they should be preceded by the initials (initials and surnames of foreign authors are given in the original transcription). If the article is written by more than two authors, the text should indicate the initials and surname of the first author only, followed by "et al.".
In the text of the article, bibliographic references are provided in the form of Arabic numerals in square brackets. It is not recommended to include references to dissertational works in the bibliography due to the difficulty of accessing them.
Tables. Each table must be positioned with two spaces above and below and must have a name and a serial number corresponding to its first mention it in the text. Tables are located in the text of the article corresponding to their first mention. Each column in the table should have a short title (abbreviations may be used). All explanations, including the full form of abbreviations used, should be placed in footnotes. Statistical methods used to represent the variability of data and the reliability of the differences must be indicated.
When presenting a set of tables, it is not necessary to use any symbols simulating rulers (e.g. pseudo-graphic, hyphen underscore). Name of the table and footnotes should be translated into English.
Illustrations (figures, schemes, diagrams) should be presented in the text of the article in accordance with the first citation. These should be submitted electronically in TIFF, or JPG format; however, photos should be submitted in TIF and JPG format (photos – only in tif). Figures should not be overburdened with text captions. The caption for each figure consists of its name and legend (explanations of parts of the figure, symbols: arrows and other details). In the legends for microphotographs, it is necessary to indicate the degree of magnification, as well as the method of staining. Names of figures, legend and caption should be translated into English.
As a rule, illustrations are published in black and white. Illustrations can also be published in colour format for the fee paid by the authors. Requests to place colour illustrations are subject to preliminary approval by the Editorial Board.
Source of Funding. Any available data on sources of financial support must be provided. For example, “This work was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (Grant No. 97-04-49434 and 00-04-49548).”
Acknowledgments
Following the Conclusion section, the author(s) can: express appreciation for scientific or technical assistance in creating the article; show gratitude for the given financial and material support with the designation of its character; disclose financial relations that may entail a conflict of interest (see Conflict of interest).
In this section, persons who have made an intellectual contribution to the writing of an article but whose contribution not sufficient to include them as co-authors can be named and their role or the nature of their contribution indicated. This characteristic can consist, for example, in the following: “scientific consultant”, “review of the research project”, “participation in data collection” or “participation in clinical research”. Such persons must give their written consent for the disclosure of their names. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to obtain this consent since readers may draw conclusions concerning the approval of such named people of the submitted data or conclusions of the article.
The bibliographic list is to be presented double-spaced, with each additional source given a new line under a sequential number. In this list, all works must be listed in order of citation (links to them in the text), and not in alphabetical order of the first-named author.
The order of compilation of the bibliographic list is as follows: a) surname(s) and initials of the author(s) of the book or article; b) title of the book or article; c) publisher's imprint; d) DOI (Digital Object Identifier in the CrossRef). DOI of the article could be checked on the site https://search.crossref.org/.
In the case of an authorial team of up to four co-writers, all authors are mentioned (with initials following the surname, dots and backspaces should not be put in between the autors’ initials). With larger authorial collectives, the first three authors are mentioned and "et al." is added (in the case of Russian literature "«и др.»"). In some cases when editors or compilers act in the capacity of authors of books, "ed." (in Russian references «ред.») should be inserted after the last name in brackets. Periods (.) are not inserted between or after the authors' initials (with the exception of the last).
Russian-language source appears in the bibliographic list, it is followed by a transliteration presented in square brackets. To facilitate this work, you can use any transliteration program, for example, Punto Switcher (download the latest version of the free program at http://punto.yandex.ru/win/release).
The authors are responsible for the correct design of the links and, therefore, the possibility of their correct recognition and automatic quoting.

Conflict of interest. Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical Journals are set out in accordance with the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (http://www.icmje.org/index.html) (Updated December 2018). A conflict of interest relating to a particular manuscript arises when one of the participants of the process of review or publication – author, reviewer, or editor – has a prior obligation that could influence his or her opinion (even if this opinion is not in fact influenced). Financial relationships (for example, those related to hiring, consulting, share ownership, payment of fees and expert opinions), whether directly or through close relatives, are the most common cause of conflict of interest. Nevertheless, there are other possible reasons: personal relations, scientific rivalry and intellectual bias.
Public confidence in the process of reviewing and authenticating published articles depends in part on how successfully the problem of conflict of interest has been resolved during their writing, reviewing and editing. Bias in an article can often be identified and eliminated by careful study of the scientific methods and conclusions used. However, bias associated with financial relations and their influences is generally much harder to identify. Therefore, in order to facilitate an estimation of the extent of its influence, participants in the process of review and publication must report any conflict of interests.
The Journal of Nephrology does not accept articles from authors who have a conflict of interest.
The order of publication of articles. As a rule, articles submitted to the journal are published in the order in which they are received by the Editorial Board. All other things being equal, subscribers (on the provision of a photocopy of a subscription subscription) are eligible for the priority placement of materials. The advantage is given to doctoral students, graduate students and applicants in the event that they are subscribers of the journal. Also out of turn may be published articles prepared by the order of the Editorial Office of the journal "Nephrology".
The Journal of Nephrology does not pay royalties. Publication of an article in the Journal Nephrology in compliance with all of the above rules is free of charge for authors and institutions in which they work. The editorial office may require payment in the following cases:
- For the publication of colour illustrations.
- In the event of a large quantity of illustrative material (over 8 illustrations).
- For the articles which include any advertisement material.
