The Nephrology (Saint-Petersburg) journal began in 1996, with the first issue being published in 1997. Up until 2013, the journal had been published quarterly. In 2013 the number of issues rose up to 6 per year. Since 2022 the journal periodicity is again 4 issues per year.
The specialised scientific and practical Nephrology (Saint-Petersburg) Journal was first published in 1997, becoming the first printed periodic publication in Russia in which issues on nephrology and related disciplines are comprehensively covered. Since 2001, the Journal has been included in the Russian State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles. List of leading peer-reviewed scientific Journals and publications in which the main results of dissertations for the academic degrees of Doctor and Candidate of Science are to be published.
Initially, and up until 2012, the Journal was published quarterly. Since 2013 Journal is published bimonthly.
The increase in the number of issues was due to, at first, the need to publish scientific works on pediatric nephrology and, at second, the request of the Rostov-on-Don city’s administration on the creation of special issue of Journal for publishing the scientific works of nephrologists of the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation.
The editorial board of the Journal are represented by leading experts from Russia, CIS countries e.g. Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, as well as from Greece, Bulgaria, and Germany.

2 years after the first publication, electronic versions are transferred to free access.
