Esteemed readers of the Nephrology journal,
The development of nephrology, being one of the most important directions in the study of internal diseases, is characterized by similar trends in different countries. Unfortunately, for various reasons, many foreign specialists lack knowledge of the priority directions and achievements of Russian nephrologists. With the aim of filling this gap, we are therefore inaugurating a new rubric entitled Classic works on the website of our journal. Under this rubric, we are planning to present full-text translations of conceptual works published by Russian authors either before or concurrently with analogous articles in leading international journals. In any research direction, progress follows the same route: from advancing an idea towards its practical application. We would like to acquaint everyone interested in the history of science with major achievements in Russian nephrology.
The translation of conceptual works is always a challenge, largely because such texts contain subtle culture-specific and terminological nuances. Therefore, we express our sincere gratitude to a translation team headed by Natalia G. Popova, Head of Foreign Languages Department, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, whose specialists performed the translation of the first five articles in this series.
